Psychology students help autistic children in a new on-campus Behavior Education Assessment and Research Center, while clinical sciences students practice their skills with community youth and adults in the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic. Some one-of-a-kind new academic programs that Northern offers include the only cold-climate forensic anthropology research station and program in the world; the first and only medicinal plant chemistry degree in the U.S.; and the only Native American Studies baccalaureate degree program in Michigan. Through the unique Student Leader Fellowship Program and Superior Edge, NMU students provide nearly 900,000 hours of volunteer service to the community each year.
